Pet Doctors St Lukes & Exotics Centre is New Zealand’s first and only dedicated Veterinary Hospital for exotic pets and wildlife, while also attending to the needs of common household pets. The clinic opened October 2015 in a brand new, purpose-built clinic conveniently located in central St Lukes, open 7 days a week.
Our passionate and caring team has a long history of providing high-quality care for the more unusual pets. Whether you and your pet are coming in for a routine health check, a pre or post-purchase examination, as a referral case, or for treatment of an illness, we have the staff, experience and equipment to offer excellent care for your exotic pet.
We are able to cater for the specialised medical and surgical needs of birds including backyard chickens, lizards, turtles & tortoises, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, mice, and cats and dogs too.
If you need to get away, your pets are welcome to stay at the nation's first Exotic Pet Hotel: a boarding facility dedicated to exotic pets and staffed by caring veterinary staff who know their scales from their beaks.
We provide a range of services from precise bird wing-clipping - through to the surgical repair of damaged or clipped feathers.

VETERINARIAN - BVSc
Allen graduated in 2010 from Massey. He spent 4 years at the Wellington SPCA where he worked with private client animals, shelter animals and welfare cases. Allen moved to Auckland with his 3 cats to take on the new challenge for exotic pet medicine & surgery. Allen enjoys all sports and activities, with a focused interest in basketball.
Veterinarian - BVSc
Andrew graduated from Massey University 2012 and has returned to NZ from Australia where he worked exclusively with birds, rabbits, guinea pigs and reptiles.
Andrew gained extensive experience whilst working in Australia including working with nature wildlife at both the Canberra and Brisbane RSPCA's. He also worked with domestic pets at the Sydney Bird and Exotic Veterinary clinic and at Brisbane's only after hours exotics service.
Andrew has a special interest in the welfare of unusual pets, he feels that they can be easily overlooked.
In his spare time he goes to the gym and enjoys a good novel or movie.
Veterinarian - BVSc
Trudi recently joined the Pet Doctors Team after returning from Australia with her young family. She graduated in 2009 from Massey University. She loves all creatures big and small, furry or feathery, even scaly!
Veterinarian Nurse - DVN
Hayley holds a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and a Certificate in Captive Wild Animals. She owns 5 Cats, Tigger, Isabella, hand-reared Zac and Elfy and previous clinic rescue kitten Aiya. She also fosters rescue kittens (and once a baby rabbit) that come into the clinic and as such she often has any number of kittens until they get a home. Hayley also has a tank full of tropical fish. In her spare time she enjoys reading, going to the movies and spending time with friends, family and her cats. Hayley enjoys learning about animal behaviour including body language, natural behaviours and training in many species. She also has a keen interest in all wild animals, particularly African Wildlife. Last year she spent 2 months in South Africa volunteering with a wildlife vet and at a rhino orphanage. She has previously spent time at Hamilton Zoo and qualified as a zookeeper.
Vet Nurse - DVN
Bianca is a Diploma Vet Nurse and has been with Pet Doctors since 2007. Her special interests are birds and exotics and she loves giving our clients advice on their pets husbandry and environmental enrichment. In her spare time Bianca loves walking her two dogs, teaching her birds new tricks and considers any time spent outside to be well spent.
Before Tyran joined Pet Doctors St Lukes, he worked in a lab in Palmerston North. After moving to Auckland, he dabbled in TV and as a swimming instructor before focusing on a career as a vet nurse. Tyran enjoys the surgery aspect of veterinary practice as well as having a keen interest in animal behaviour and communication.
Tyrann owns a Tortoiseshell cat name Von Swaggerstein who only has three feet. A fun fact about Tyran is that he's currently training to become a stuntman!
Before joining Pet Doctors St Lukes & Exotics, Sam worked as a wildlife vet nurse and a zookeeper in Australia. She has a passion for all wildlife and exotic creatures and loves being able to work with them on a daily basis which is a dream come true.
Sam owns several wonderful pets; Sheeba the 6 month old former stray cat, Alaska the 8 month old Australian Kelpie x Border Collie, Dusk & Dawn the two 12 week old rabbits and the love of her life; Dinosaur the 4 year old Green Cheek Conure. A lover of wildlife, Sam volunteers in Kenya on a regular basis.
Shondell is our senior cat and dog nurse who joined the team in 2016 after working full time at an after-hours emergency clinic in Australia. She has always had a love of exotic pets and is enjoying taking her knowledge of cats, dogs and emergency nursing and expanding it with a world of exotic medicine.
She currently has just the one pet, a betta fish “Detective Jake Peralta” who came to the clinic needing a new home. In her spare time Shondell can be found travelling the world and around the country, bush walking, practicing acrobatic yoga, swimming at the beach, volunteering at animal sanctuaries and relaxing at home teaching herself a new skill (water colour painting, learning Dutch etc)."
Harry has come to us from South Africa after spending 15 months volunteering at the Cheetah Outreach. He has graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science and is a Certified National Scientist so you know your pet will be in great hands. Harry believes that his time is worthwhile if he can make a difference in an animal's life.
Harry has a 17-year-old geriatric deaf cat called Molly who keeps him up all night with her meowing. Clients often ask Harry if he has changed his hair colour but no, he has just gone blonde from working outside in the sun with the Cheetahs all day!
Sarah - Client Relations
Sarah joined Pet Doctors St Lukes as part of their clients relations team after spending 5 years living in England and travelling Europe with her partner Tom. She enjoys providing excellent customer service to both people and pets which is very rewarding.
A lover of animals from a young age, Sarah has owned many pets from fish, birds, frogs and rabbits, but now she owns a Belgian German Tervuren named Wilson. In her free time, you can find Sarah travelling and bush walking.
